Difference between fiber optic sensors and photoelectric sensors

02 Apr 2024 click : 274

The same called sensors, fiber optic sensors and photoelectric sensors have a relatively large difference in price, what is the difference between the two? Today we lead you from four aspects to have a look!

1.Working principle

Photoelectric  Switch is the use of photoelectric to work, by the transmitter, receiver, converter three parts, when there are objects through the sensor detection area, the surface of the object will be light changes, the sensor is able to receive the conversion of this change in light signals into electrical signals, output to the PLC and other control ports, to achieve the purpose of detection. Fiber optic sensor is through the principle of total reflection of light to work, the use of optical fiber light transmission characteristics can be measured into a change in the characteristics of light, such as the frequency, wavelength, intensity and phase of light can be changed.

2. Different production materials

Fiber optic sensors are mainly made of glass fibers with high transmittance (mainly quartz glass, but also the main component of the fiber optic line), the composition is relatively single. Photoelectric sensor is the main production material with photoelectric effect of semiconductor materials or metal materials, such as light-emitting diodes and photoelectric transistors, etc., of which the main production material is cadmium sulfide photoresist or indium antimonide.

3. Different structures

Photoelectric sensor structure is relatively simple, such as photodiodes have pins, shells, cores, and glass condenser mirrors and other parts of the composition; and fiber optic sensor structure is relatively complex, in addition to fiber optics, there are also a number of complex peripherals as an auxiliary control.

4. Different application scope

The two due to structural differences in the use of pathways also have differences in performance. Fiber optic sensors can be used to detect some of the finer objects, while photoelectric sensors can detect the diameter of the object is a relatively large limit. Fiber optic sensors and photoelectric sensors in the industrial application is actually almost the same. Fiber optic sensors are more commonly used in aerospace, medical and other fields due to higher requirements.

The above is about the difference between fiber optic sensors and photoelectric sensors, hoping to help you, if you have other questions, welcome to send a message or call 0086 15372809562 to consult!
